Browser Adjustments

Internet browsers have very similar features and they can be adjusted in a variety of ways. Below are some common settings and features and where they can be found on each browser.

Primary Menus

(these are standard locations across most programs, not just browsers.)

MAC – Across the top of your Desktop to the left of the Apple

PC – Across the top of the browser window.

Chrome:

In the upper right corner of the browser dash. Look for 3 little vertical dots. Sometimes the area will say Paused or Update just click it and follow the instructions.

Edge

In the upper right corner of the browser dash. Look for 3 little horizontal dots

Sign into your Browser Profile

Your Browser Profile is what keeps everything synchronized so you can log into your browser from anywhere and have all your stuff arranged the way you like it. Profiles also allow you to access multiple Google Workspace accounts and Microsoft 365 accounts without getting meshed and confused.

Chrome:

Click the profile circle in the upper right corner of your Browser Dash and enter the login credentials for your Gmail email account. (Google Workspace, @ gmail.com, or an alternate email address you have associated with your Gmail account.)

Edge

Click the profile circle in the upper right corner of your Browser Dash and enter the login credentials for your Microsoft email account. (Microsoft 365 account, @ Outlook.com, @ Hotmail.com, @ Live.com, or an alternate email address you have associated with your Microsoft account)

Firefox

Click the profile circle in the upper right corner of your Browser Dash and enter the login credentials you choose when you signed up.

Safari

When you log into your computer with your Apple ID you are also logged into your Safari Browser.

Show the favorites/bookmarks bar

One of the most useful things you can do with your browser is set up your favorites bar, also known as your bookmark bar. Getting comfortable with this feature will allow you to quickly access the things you use every day and have a place you can store the webpages you will need to access “eventually”.

Chrome:

  1. Click 3 vertical setting dots in upper right corner of your browser dash
  2. Hover over Bookmarks
  3. Click “Show Bookmark Bar”

Edge

  1. Click the 3 horizontal setting dots in upper right corner of your browser dash
  2. Click Favorites
  3. Click the 3 horizontal setting dots at the top of menu
  4. Hover over “show favorites bar”
  5. Click “Always”

Firefox

  1. Click the 3 horizontal setting lines in upper right corner of your browser dash
  2. Click on Bookmarks
  3. Click “Show Bookmark Toolbar”

Safari

  1. Open Safari and look to the very top of your screen and make sure it says Safari next to the Apple in the upper left corner
  2. Click View from the menu at the top of your screen
  3. Click Show Favorites Bar
  4. Click “Show Bookmark Bar”

Add a bookmark/favorite

Look for the star on the right in the navigation field. This is usually how you add a bookmark or favorite.

Chrome:

  1. Click the star in the right end of the navigation field.
  2. Click “Add bookmark”
  3. Notice the location and adjust if necessary
  4. Click “Done”

Edge

  1. Click the star in the right end of the navigation field. (NOT the star with the 3 little horizontal lines on it)
  2. Click “Add bookmark”
  3. Notice the location and adjust if necessary
  4. Click “Done”

Firefox

  1. Click the star in the right end of the navigation field.
  2. Notice the location and adjust if necessary
  3. Click “Save”

Safari

From the Primary Menu at the top of your screen (Make sure it says Safari on the left)

  1. Click “Bookmarks”
  2. Click “Add Bookmark”
  3. Notice the location and adjust if necessary
  4. Click “add”

Create bookmark/favorites folders

Chrome:

  1. Rt. Click/Secondary Click on the bookmark bar.
  2. Click “Add Folder”
  3. Notice the location and adjust if necessary
  4. Type in an appropriate name for your folder
  5. Click “Save”

Edge

  1. Rt. Click/Secondary Click on the bookmark bar.
  2. Click “Add Folder”
  3. Notice the location and adjust if necessary
  4. Type in an appropriate name for your folder
  5. Click “Save”

Firefox

  1. Rt. Click/Secondary Click on the bookmark bar.
  2. Click “Add Folder”
  3. Type in an appropriate name for your folder
  4. Click “Save”

Safari

From the Primary Menu at the top of your screen (Make sure it says Safari on the left)

  1. Click “Bookmarks”
  2. Click “Add Bookmark Folder”
  3. Notice the location of your new “Untitled Folder” and adjust as necessary. (Nesting the folder under Favorites will add it to the Bookmark bar)
  4. Rt. Click/Secondary Click the “Untitled Folder” and choose “rename” from the list to give the folder a good title.
