How to Screenshot
Here are some quick tips on how to do a screenshot on your devices. Practice taking screenshots regularly, so you get really good at it and don’t need to think about it when you need it. (If these instructions are too daunting you can take a picture of your screen with your phone.)
- PC: Keyboard Shortcut* = Windows + Shift + S (the letter S) – NOTE: This doesn’t always work** 🙁
- MAC: Keyboard Shortcut* = Command + Shift + 5 (the number 5)
- iPhone: Press Power and Home buttons or Power and Up Volume buttons at the same time.
- Android: Press Power and Down Volume buttons at the same time.
*When you are using keyboard shortcuts you can depress the keys in the order listed and then lift a second after they are all pressed. I often hold down the first 2 keys and then press the last one with my other hand and then let go of them all at once.
As soon as you press all three keys the screenshot options should pop up.
**I and my clients have had difficulties getting the keyboard shortcut keys on the PC to work. It is better to use the Snip and Sketch tool. I list it because I hope someday Microsoft will fix it or you may be the lucky one for whom it works.
Both Mac and PC also have an image capture tool automatically installed.
For PC it is the Snip and Sketch. To find it just type “Snip” into the search bar near your Start menu (lower left corner – if it is turned on). When you find it and open it I recommend you pin it to your Start bar/Task bar for easy access. This program is more reliable than using the shortcut keys.
On the MAC this tool is Grab. To find it click the search icon in the upper right corner of your screen or hit [Command + the Space Bar] on your keyboard and type “Grab” into the search field. When you find it, and open it, I recommend you pin it to your Dock.
There is also a free tool called Loom.com that allows you to capture your screen as a video. It is amazing! Go check it out.And if all else fails; you can also just take a picture of your computer screen with your phone.
